You BEAST!

Are you aware of the fact that your bedroom is a sexual palace?! Every night as you squish your pillow and flop around to get comfortable, mad passionate sex takes place right under your nose...literally! And, even though you think your just layin’ there watching another video you rented, the reality is you’re participating. You see, what you don’t always see, is the hideous flea! Tis’ Spring! Love is in the air! It’s also in your rugs, furniture and on your fluffy pet. Zee flea is reproducing faster than Peter Cottontail! One female flea can lay up to 2500 eggs! Yeow! I’m getting itchy just thinking about it. I’m having flashbacks to that scene in Aliens where that queen Alien is laying all those monster eggs! And, your helping them! Eeeek! “How’s that Ken?” you ask. Well, I’ll tell ya. Fleas are a never-ending problem in Florida. Und, you dun’t have to have a pet to have them dropping those eggs all over your abode. Since fleas are all over the place outside, they can just hitch a ride on you and have a warm cozy home to start a new family in. But, they most commonly move on up to that penthouse in the sky via a pooch or puss. You and your pet help fleas by being their dinner. They slurp on your blood, and like Dracula, get their energy to lay those eggs. And, they can mature from egg to adult in just 8-10 days! Fleas aren’t only annoying ‘cause they chomp on you. Fleas can be the source of allergic dermatitis, intestinal tapeworms and many other irritating problems. You can drive the stake into those little suckers hearts by attacking on all fronts. You need to treat the pet, house, yard and even your car. If you only treat the pet and house, you can easily see those little fiends bouncing around again in a few days. So, get out the Yellow Pages and call a good pest control company. Then you can dance in the sheets and avoid bites on yo feets!

Does Your Pooch Need Some Persuading?

People procrastinate with their pooch until bad behaviors become a pretty perplexing problem. I often hear things such as, "Oh, he'll grow out of it," and "She's still a puppy," and the dog is 2 years old! The fact is they don't grow out of it, and it's the way you, your significant other and anyone else in the house interacts with the dog that inadvertently creates most pooch problemos! For example, ever see someone, ummm, like you, who has had a puppy and pats their legs to encourage the cutie, wootie, little patootie to jump up on them? Then, that little cute lab puppy turns into a big 85 pound lug that knocks you over, tears up pantyhose and scratches people up.

How about you self-employed, retired or stay-at-home mothers who are home all the time? Many people in this category have serious housebreaking problems because they let their dog out six, eight, ten thousand times a day! If you let your pooch out without following a specific recipe (I'd have to kill you if I told you) to create good relief habits, then your pooch will pee and poop like a Play-Doh machine and your sanity will be tested. This same group of pooch pleasers tend to have pupperinos that suffer from serious separation anxiety and destruction problems. Why is this Mr. Portuguese Prince of Pooch perfection you ask?! Well, if you are home all the time, giving your pooch too much attention, you create too much of an emotional tie to you and that, in turn, creates a panicky pooch. Got it?

I'm really amazed that people don't get their dogs trained and off to a good start. After 13 years of running my business, it always seems that the people who need dog training the most are the ones who keep putting it off. This causes them more stress, destruction of their property and worsening of the problems, and I've often seen people get rid of the dog because they lack the commitment to do the work needed to correct the problems that they've often caused. Animals need guidance like children, and people who lack patience and diligence just shouldn't have a dog.

The best thing that can be done when you get a new puppy or have a pooch that's got some issues is to get a professional trainer that will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Your pooch needs to be taught his or her place in your pack, what their job is and how to respect the leader or Alpha Dog. This in turn saves you money because you create good habits, avoid destructive behavior and putting your pooch on puppy Prozac and raise a more serene and well-mannered pooch.
